İSMEK

ISMEK, the Art and Vocational Training courses by the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul, is a mass education organization, which has been founded in order to:

  • Increase the personal knowledge of Istanbulians
  • Improve their vocational and artistic perceptions
  • Equip them with the urban culture and increase their awareness about living in a metropolitan
  • Help them be actively included in production processes as opposed to simply being consumers
  • Contribute to their efforts to have an income
  • Increase their chances of employability

ETC. And is a complementary to formal education.

MAYOR

Mevlüt UYSAL

He was born in 1966 in Alanya district of Antalya. He completed his primary and secondary education in Alanya. He graduated from İstanbul University School of Law in 1988.

Mevlut Uysal who has been a lawyer for many years, has actively participated in political, social affairs and cultural studies. He took place in the establishment of the AK Parti, he became the founding president of Küçükçekmece District Organization.

Uysal was elected as the Mayor of Başakşehir Municipality in March 2009 local elections. With his projects and successful services in his first term, Mevlüt Uysal was elected as the AK Parti candidate for the second time in the 2014 local elections and has become the Mayor for the second time.

Mevlüt Uysal has been elected as the Mayor of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality at the special meeting held in September 2017 by the Council of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

He is married with four children.

TRAINING PRINCIPLES

ISMEK performs its educational activities in accordance with the principles in the 5th article of the concerned regulation by the Ministry of Education. These principles are as follows:Being open to everyone: Activities are performed in ways that everyone can benefit easily. Special actions are taken for those who need special education.

Suitability to all kinds of needs: Activities and services are performed in accordance with individual and societal needs.

Continuousness: Activities and services are designed in the way that individuals can benefit lifelong.

Being planned: In accordance with development plan objectives, education, training, production, man power, and employment are taken into consideration.

Innovation and openness to improvement: programs are continually improved in accordance with the improvement of the education and teaching methods as well as the tools and gadgets used in lessons, technological developments, and with the needs of the environment and the country.

Willingness: Individuals and the society should be taking part in the activities willingly. ETC.

To present the teachings of the master and apprentice method in accordance with the principles of the modern education systems, not compromising the quality. To increase the quality of education in the perspective of rationalism, knowledge, innovation, participation and continuousness. HISTORY


ISMEK started its activities as a social structuring project in 1996, when Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the mayor of Istanbul.

The educational activities which began with 141 trainees on 3 branches in 3 teaching centers in the first year, reached 2.619.530 trainees on 752 programs, 307 branches, in 242 teaching centers in Istanbul's 39 counties as of the 2018-2019 education and teaching period.

ISMEK which now has more trainees than most universities, serves almost as the biggest public university both due to the number of trainees, and the diversity of its branches, as well as the products created. Today, ISMEK has become a model organization both nationwide, and worldwide.
